Interpretation: God calls the king and queen mother to humble themselves and sit down. The verse warns that their authority will be taken away. The crown of their glory will fall. God uses the image of sitting down to show they must lower their position. When people exalt themselves, God may bring them down. The call to humble themselves shows that God offers them a chance to lower themselves before He lowers them. Those who humble themselves before God may avoid the judgment that comes from pride.

The king experienced God's power to lower those who exalt themselves. After God humbled him, Nebuchadnezzar recognized God's authority. The verse teaches that God opposes pride. Those who walk in pride face God's judgment. God's ability to humble the proud shows His authority over all people. 2 Corinthians 11:7
KJV: Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?
NKJV: Did I commit sin in humbling myself that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you free of charge?
