Leviticus 27:21
KJV: But the field, when it goeth out in the jubile, shall be holy unto the LORD, as a field devoted; the possession thereof shall be the priest's.
NKJV: But the field, when it is released in the Jubilee, shall be holy to the LORD, as a devoted field; it shall be the possession of the priest.
NIV: When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it will become priestly property.
Interpretation: The verse describes what happens to a field in the Year of Jubilee. It becomes holy to the Lord, set apart like a devoted field. The field goes to the priest as his possession. The verse shows that certain things are set apart for God. Things devoted to God are treated differently from normal property. The field's change in status shows it belongs to God. When something is devoted to God, it is removed from normal use. The verse teaches that what belongs to God is holy and separate.

Ezekiel 23:30
KJV: I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols.
NKJV: I will do these things to you because you have gone as a harlot after the Gentiles, because you have become defiled by their idols,
NIV: I will do all this to you because you lusted after the pagans and defiled yourself with their idols.
Interpretation: God explains why He will judge Israel. They went after foreign nations and their idols. They defiled themselves with pagan worship. The verse shows that following foreign ways leads to judgment. When God's people adopt practices from unbelievers, they become defiled. Going after foreign idols is described as spiritual unfaithfulness. God's people are called to be separate from the world. Mixing with foreign practices pollutes what should be holy. The verse teaches that God's people must remain distinct from the world.
